Lafayette Melbourne sits quietly tucked inside the bustling Block Arcade on Collins Street, offering a calm pause from the city rush. This cafe draws locals who appreciate a refined yet relaxed setting, making it ideal for a laid-back brunch, a casual coffee catch-up, or a slow afternoon spent chatting without the usual noise that fills bigger cafés. Its interior leans on a chic, blue-themed decor that feels both elegant and inviting, striking a balance that suits those looking for comfort with a touch of sophistication.

The menu leans into tasty, well-prepared options that pair beautifully with their diverse coffee offerings. Expect quality in every bite—from flaky baguettes generously filled with smoked salmon, avocado, and cream cheese, to more indulgent choices like pistachio and strawberry French toast. Coffee here is more than just a pick-me-up; it’s crafted thoughtfully, featuring creative options such as Nutella and Biscoff lattes that aren’t overly sweet but balanced to highlight the flavors.

Staff interaction at Lafayette stands out. The friendly, attentive service adds a warmth often missing in busy city cafés, and there’s a genuine community vibe—many regulars greet the barista by name, suggesting a strong local connection. It’s a place where you can feel part of the neighborhood, not just another transient customer.

Whether you’re dropping in on a mid-morning weekday or seeking a cozy spot for a quieter weekend brunch, Lafayette delivers a subtle blend of polished presentation and homely comfort. It’s especially well-suited for those who want good food and inventive coffee in a calm environment that invites lingering just a little longer.

Ordered the smoked salmon with capers, cream cheese and avocado on a baguette and a strawberry matcha. Food was very tasty and filling, bread wasn't too dry or hard to bite. Strawberry matcha was also nice, not too sweet.

The cafe has a chic and gorgeous interior with a calming blue theme. The man working there (possibly the owner) was friendly and very attentive. It was heartwarming to see how people passing by would wave or call out to him — it made me feel that he’s truly loved by the community. I really enjoyed the Nutella latte he recommended, as well as the pistachio & strawberry French toast. The space isn’t very large, but despite being located in the city, it’s quiet and cozy. I’ll definitely be back again.

Had such a lovely dining experience at Lafayette! The space feels elegant yet cozy and perfect for brunch or a little dinner catch-up. The food was beautifully plated and tasted just as good, especially the prosciutto baguette and the French toast The coffee menu has so many fun options too (the Biscoff latte was my fave!). The staff were super friendly and made the experience feel so warm and welcoming. Definitely a spot I’d come back to and one I’d recommend to anyone looking for a pretty café with great food and vibes!

Sitting in a quiet area in the busy Block Arcade, we liked the atmosphere of this cosy cafe in this festive season. The coffee here is really good, a perfect Melbourne Magic.

Enjoyed both nice cup of black coffee and salmon & avocado tartine here. Good place to hang out with friends for chatting. Not so noisy and crowded.

Lafayette is a nice cozy hideaway from the busyness of the CBD. It is elegantly decorated and not too pretentious. Enough so that one would feel comfortable and relaxed to just chill. The food on offering is excellent. I personally had the strawberry pistachio french toast on this visit and it did not feel overly heavy or too sweet at all. Coffee is what you would expect from the CBD. But really it's the cozy quietly tucked away atmosphere that sells this place for me. Great to just sit and read a book or to catch up with friends over something light.

My friend and I were looking for a neurodivergent friendly cafe to have lunch in on Friday afternoon and we decided on this place. My friend had her walking stick and was able to walk in with it. The seats were comfortable, upholstered in blue velvet. The food options were good value. I decided on the salmon and avocado tartine and pistachio iced black coffee. Everything was delightful. It did take maybe 10 minutes or so to get our orders but it was worth the wait and we had air conditioning to make it easier. The only criticism I have is the music, it was very nightclubby and didn’t suit the vibe of the place. I definitely will come back.
